Definition:
Inspired by the movies Blood Diamond and Hotel Rwanda, this portrait is an attempt to shed light on the injustices that plague the continent of Africa. From genocides in Rwanda and Sudan, to the rapid rate of deaths from AIDS and malaria, to the recruitment of child soldiers, to extreme poverty across the land, the people of Africa suffer. This masterpiece displays a map of the continent of Africa and attempts to illustrate the differences in cultures, all while showing the unique bond we all share as humans. We are not always made aware of the tremendous horrors and events that go on in Africa and other parts of the world. JPalmer’s hope in doing this piece is to make known the African story. In doing so, we will one day see a free Africa and a better world.
