Born Cassius Clay, but later changed to Muhammad Ali, this former champion became one of his era’s most identifiable and controversial figures. This picture depicts Mr. Ali in the city of Louisville, Kentucky, the place of his humbled beginnings where he developed the lightning personality and value system that would allow him to defy a government and not go to war on account of his religious beliefs.
