The piece walks a mile in this young lady’s shoes showing her growth from childhood as a naïve young lady walking off the school bus, wishing she would be more liked and not knowing the magnitude of her adult fame. One is led to believe that this incident occurs in the fifties or sixties as the pianist is donned in attire representative of that era.The time is further dated with the depiction of Mrs. Rosa Parks, an influential figure in the civil rights movement. The message from the artwork is that maturity is a process, only accomplished through the learning experiences that one gains when put in certain situations.
